Everyone's Favorite Dummies

A site devoted to Ventriloquism and Vaudeville.

You may not realize this but in general, ventriloquists and puppeteers do not tend to hang out in the same circles. I'm not sure why this is. If anyone knows what caused this rift, please let me know.

I think it's because there's something about being seen with a puppet.

Who would want to be seen with a puppet? It's embarrassing!

Ventriloquists are very brave. Note: I did not say shameless. I said brave. Please, no hate mail.

In which circles do they run? I wonder if they hang out with nomadic carnies. Were puppeteers part of the same caravans as ventriloquists?

I think the problem is that Ventriloquists (vents) tend to view puppeteers as a little stuck-up and pretenious whereas puppeteers find vents (or at least their dolls), well, kinda creepy*.

I'm generalizing of course and I do respect the artform - it's extremely difficult to do well - but I don't know there's something about vent dummies and clowns...they scare the living hell out of even me, and I mean I spend a lot of my time doing this.

*With sincerest apologies to any Ventriloquists reading this
