Go see Syriana

Another great movie this year: Syriana. It's not an action movie, it's a poignant, deep film describing the intertangled ecosystem of the Oil Industry and some of its key players. Go see it.

Anita and I are a little behind, due to our trip to New York (we finally saw "King Kong"). But "Syriana" is next on our list.

PS - How do you do italics in your posts?

Hey Jeff,

I have to see King Kong next and maybe Narnia if I'm desperate for entertainment.

Italics is really easy. You can either hilight the text and press the Italic button while you're editing, or you can add the italic html tags, like this:
<i>This is italic</i&rt;

I found Syriana very interesting. I have been tracking developments amongst those in or bordering Central Asia. It has been obvious that there is a great deal of interest, especially from the Chinese. My speculation had been about population pressure.

A friend of a friend who ought to know something says the area is oil rich, but undeveloped. The whole thing was sort of an, "Aha!" for me. I found the missing puzzle piece.

I still think I had a valid point about population pressures in China and India potentially leading to a war over the Steppes. The movie did not have a tidy ending. That is how that sort of thing really is, though. There is no end to it -- it is history, and keeps on flowing.

Anita and I finally saw it tonight, but can't share your enthusiasm. While the film was well-crafted and performed, it was over-long and sluggishly paced. Not much emotional propulsion along the way, either. We didn't hate it, but I came really close to walking out.
