Stand Up 2 Cancer

I'm sitting waiting at the Burbank Airport and on TV, all three American Networks are showing a live fundraiser right now called "Stand Up 2 Cancer." Celebrities of all sorts are answering phones. It's really great that these corporations are focused on a cause, if just for a few hours. Their website will be up for a while, so please donate.

(And the cause I'm focused on this weekend is the Totoro Forest Project, an art auction / fundraiser over at PIXAR to help protect Japan's endangered forests, the ones that inspired the legendary animation master Miyazaki, creator of My Neighbor Totoro and Spirited Away.)

Finding Nemo, the MUSICAL?

Brother Colin writes in from Boston:
"Okay, so I know the composers and the star of a theme park show. Big deal. Only the show is at Disney World, and the show is "Finding Nemo."

Try to get your brain around the scale and technical ambition evident in these clips and photos."
Jeez. Live-action Pixar that's not on Ice? Wow.

Joe Ranft & Bob Moog, R.I.P

Ack! The world lost two greats this week. First, Joe Ranft, one of the Pixar story-gods and voice artist for several of their films. Then, Bob Moog, creator of the first popular synthesizer.

I was fortunate enough to meet both these guys this year. Bob was at a "Legends of Synthesis" event in Chatsworth a few months ago. I asked him what kind of music he liked to listen to. He said "Rap, Hip-hop mostly." Joe was at Jeff Pidgeon's wedding (for which I was "Bridesman")
